To Our Beloved Chicago Community:
We have officially closed our hotline in anticipation of the Pretrial Fairness Act going into effect on January 1, 2023. This means that someone’s inability to pay will no longer be the reason for why an individual is held in jail. Although we will not be considering new requests, in an effort to fulfill our promises to the community, we will continue to process requests made prior to November 1, 2022. This means, we will continue to pay bonds through December and will work diligently to respond to all requests submitted before November 1st. Our organization will no longer need to pay bonds after December.
We will reopen our hotline beginning January 30, 2023 to help answer questions from the community about the changes to the law with the passing of the Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA). Due to the PFA’s elimination of cash bond, the hotline will operate as a resource of information and potential referral, but not as a means of processing requests to pay bond.
We are forever grateful to you all for supporting our mission and organization over the past 7 years, during which we’ve been able to free over 700 people from Cook County Jail. We apologize to those families whose loved ones’ bonds we have not and may not be able to pay before the end of the year.
Please continue to follow us on social media as the fight continues to #ENDMONEYBOND in Illinois. There is still a lot of work to be done but we couldn’t have made it this far without the community that first led us to creating an organization like CCBF. You can look for updates on our work through our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter page.
If you would like to reach us for another purpose, NOT pertaining to paying bond, please send us a message to email@example.com. with your name, contact information, and your reason for reaching out and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
