Honoring the Legacy of Malik Alim
As many of you may know, Chicago Community Bond Fund lost our dear friend and comrade Malik Alim on August 20, 2021. We are heartbroken about this monumental loss, and we appreciate everyone who has already sent condolences and support.
Malik was a dedicated young activist, father, friend, and a precious member of our community. Though his life on Earth was cut short, his legacy continues to live on in our hearts and in the work he so passionately championed as an Advocate with CCBF and Campaign Coordinator for the Coalition to End Money Bond. He was instrumental in securing the passage of the Pretrial Fairness Act, and hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans will reap the fruits of his labor of love for this movement. But Malik was so much more than any position he held or work that he did; the way he loved his family, his children, and the people around him is what will be remembered and missed most in his physical absence.
To learn more about Malik’s powerful spirit, you can read this Block Club Chicago Article, “Malik Believed Another World is Possible,” which contains a beautiful tribute written for him by his partner Kristiana. The Illinois Senate also passed a resolution in his honor that you can read here. Lastly, you can donate to Malik’s Legacy Fund, which is nearly halfway complete toward the fundraising goal.
Most importantly, to honor Malik, you can go forth with fearlessness, joy, and compassion, fighting for the better world that Malik believed was possible. It is our commitment at CCBF to do this as well, and we appreciate your continued support and participation.
