CCBF Comments on COVID-19 Quarantine Procedures at Cook County Jail

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has begun quarantining all new detainees for 12 to 14 days. These measures are in inadequate and only further punish individuals whose health is being put at risk by their pretrial incarceration. Every day, guards & staff will be entering and exiting Cook County Jail. They are just as likely bring Covid-19 into the jail as newly incarcerated people.


Instead of finding ways to increase the jail’s capacity during this crisis, the Sheriff’s Office should be finding ways to decarcerate the jail to protect public health. Read our demands that have been endorsed by more than 70 advocacy, community, & legal organizations:
