Chief Judge’s Budget Hearing
This morning, we were at the County Board hearing on the Chief Judge’s budget. We shared fact sheets on how bail reform has saved the thousands of dollars by reducing the number of people incarcerated at the jail. We also shared information on the harmful impact of punitive pretrial “services.”
General Order18.8A helped reduce the number of people incarcerated at Cook County Jail by 1,400 people for the last year. At $143/person/day, that should have saved Cook County nearly $70 million.
