Remembering Fred Hampton
70 years ago today, #FredHampton was born. Fred grew up in Maywood and went on to become chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, and deputy chairman of the national BPP.
Chicago Police officers assassinated Fred Hampton and fellow party member Mark Clark on December 4, 1969. Fred was just 21 years old.
While Fred’s life was cut short, his legacy and work lives on in our movement for social justice. “If you dare to struggle, you dare to win. If you dare not struggle, then damn it, you don’t deserve to win.” ― Fred Hampton
