Today, Aretha Franklin passed away at the age of 76. In 1970, the queen of soul committed to paying bail to free Angela Davis. She was quoted in the December 1970 issue of Jet Magazine saying that “she’s a Black woman and she wants freedom for Black people. I have the money; I got it from Black people and I want to use it in ways to help our people”.
