Three Years Since the Death of Kalief Browder
Yesterday marked three years since the death of Kalief Browder.
Beginning at age 16, Kalief spent more than one thousand days incarcerated pretrial at New York City’s Riker’s jail. In total, two of those three years were spent in solitary confinement, and Kalief was subjected to regular violence inside. The trauma Kalief experienced while incarcerated was a major cause of his later suicide, years after his case was dismissed and he was released.
Today, Kalief’s brother Akeem is a leader in the fight to #EndMoneyBail in NY and nationally. Akeem is asking everyone to sign the pledge to end wealth-based detention at: https://www.kaliefbrowderfoundation.com/and voice your support using the #IStandWithKalief hashtag.
