Thanks for Coming!
Thank you all for coming out to CCBF’s Second Anniversary Celebration! We had such a wonderful time with you. An extra special shout-out to Daniel & Damon with AirGo, Ethos, King Detro, Mariame Kaba & Malcolm London for making this such an incredible evening for our community. And thanks to Krista Williams for taking these beautiful photos (www.krystaannwilliams.com).
In the last year, CCBF posted bond for our 100th person. We also worked with The Coalition to End Money Bond to monitor Cook County’s bond court and hold judges accountable after Chief Judge Evans’ rule change went into effect on September 18, 2017. We also referred plaintiffs to the class action lawsuit which argues that Cook County’s bail system is unconstitutional, pushed for a Illinois Supreme Court rule and lobbied for legislative change in Springfield. In October, we released a report and video documenting punitive pretrial conditions. Each step of the way, we worked with people we bonded out of the jail and off electronic monitoring to help share their stories. All of this work and more was done by incredible team of over 70 volunteers and two new staff positions.
After two years, we are closer to abolishing money bail and ending pretrial detention in Cook County than we ever could have imagined. None of this would be possible without your support. Thank you doesn’t even begin to encompass the gratitude we have for each and every one of you. We are blessed to have such an amazing community standing with us. We love you you more than words can tell.
